You wouldn’t think it would have to take an Einstein to figure out which four letter word best personifies the act of caring for a loved one. There are so many of them to choose from and depending upon the how the day is going, you might be inclined to scream out one or another such word into the wind.
Yet it does take an Einstein to come up with the perfect choice of words and in fact it takes two Einsteins to do so. In 1980, Albert Einstein's daughter donated 1400 letters written by her father to the Hebrew University library, among which was one that perfectly defines the most powerful force in the world and according to Albert himself, more powerful than any theory he had previously postulated.
In this letter he wrote:
When I proposed the theory of relativity, very few understood me and what I will reveal now to transmit to mankind will also collide with the misunderstanding and prejudice in the world. There is an extremely powerful force, for which science has not yet found the formal explanation. it is a force that includes and governs all others, and is beyond any phenomena operating in the universe. this universal force is love.
Love is light that enlightens those who give and receive it.
Love is gravity because it makes some people feel attracted to others.
Love is power because it multiplies the best we have and allows humanity not to be extinguished in their blind selfishness.
Love unfolds and reveals.
I want to offer my personal thanks to both father and daughter for allowing us to have this wisdom during a holiday season where many families will once again be able to celebrate together.
I think as usual, Albert hit the nail right on the proverbial head.
Caregiving is love and love is Caregiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
