How did you become the caregiver for your loved one?
After My dad's passing in 2010, his sister (my aunty) called to ask for money. we soon discovered that for years she has been giving her money to the sweepstakes and spiritualist companies. I invited her to come live with me.
Has your relationship changed with the loved one that you are caring for? If so how?
It was a love hate relationship that got worse as symptoms of dementia began.
What is the hardest thing about being a caregiver and the most rewarding thing?
Initially the verbal abuse and as early onset began placing her in a memory care was hard.
What advice would you give to other caregivers?
Do not go it alone. Ask for help. Practice self care and find away to not argue. Walk away don't argue..
In ten words or less, what has caregiving taught you?
I have a love for seniors, I never knew existed.
Describe a situation where being a Fearless Caregiver helped you succeed?
Her death in Jan 2016 inspired me to become a licensed facility Serenity Adult Family Care home and a nonprofit The residential Home Care Network to advocate for seniors care in a private home versus institution.#fearlesscaregiver
