Three score and six years ago
Due to the potential fire hazard, the fire department has refused a permit for my birthday cake next week. So, instead of blowing out candles, I’d like to share a few things I have learned from the family caregivers I’ve met in my three score and six years on this planet.
First
You are not alone. Although many times it may feel as if you are the only one who understands your life as a family caregiver, there is help and support.
Second
You can get help from friends and relatives (not all of them perhaps.) You just need to learn what to ask for and how to ask.
Third
No matter how you may roll your eyes at the thought, the best way you can care for your loved one is to care for yourself as well.
I hope this year to receive the same gift that I’ve been blessed with over the past 27 years of publishing, and that is being able to again spend time face to face with my fellow family caregivers at a our first in-person Fearless Caregiver Conference in almost 2 years. So, if you don’t mind, today as every day, I would like to continue celebrating you and all you do for your loved ones and clients.
Now, back to those candles.
