We have some sad passings in the caregiver family. First the indomitable B. Smith, author and restaurateur, who was living with Alzheimer’s and appeared on the January 2016 cover of Today's Caregiver magazine with her beloved husband Dan Gasby. Dan exemplified the true nature of a loving caregiver and we grieve with him and his family
Also, a Today’s Caregiver magazine 2003 CareHeroes award winner, Sy Sperling passed away this month. Sy, as well as being the founder of Hair Club For Men (and of course, a client) was also the founder of a most amazing organization, Hair Club for Kids which supplied hair replacement for children who lost their hair due to health challenges. A philanthropist, South Florida neighbor and good soul who will be missed by all.
2020 is a leap year, which is a calendar year containing an added additional day to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical or seasonal year. Also, it gives you an extra day to take care of yourself. So Happy Care for You Day this Saturday.
Last week, I attended the annual SCOPE (Summit for Clinical Ops Executives) conference in Orlando. I’ve been attending this impressive international conference for many years and was especially excited to see how many exhibit booths and conference sessions were talking about the concept of Patient-Centricity. We have also long been advocates of what we call Caregiver-Centricity, for the situations when our loved ones cannot make important decisions for themselves or need our direct support making these decisions. We have created Caregiver-Centric programs for over 20 years for many different topics including clinical trials, since you as the CEO’s of Your Loved Ones, Inc. deserve all the best available advice and support as you care for your loved ones.
Yesterday, we hosted our 288th Fearless Caregiver Conference and the 15th to be in West Palm Beach, Florida, the room was packed and as usual, caregivers learned much for our panel of experts but, so very much from each other, about everything from low vision and hearing health, Alzheimer’s care, kids who care, concierge health, adult day care and end of life options. We were pleased to have some attendees from The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC), a sovereign tribe located in the metropolitan Phoenix area join us for the day. Two terrific 2020 events in the records books and many more to go. Look forward to seeing you on the road!
