My dad used to tell a joke that I would share at the in-person Fearless Caregiver Conferences. It goes like this: How can you tell who the volunteers are in the army? They are the ones who don’t take a large step back when a request for volunteers is made at morning muster.
You are all among those who did not take that giant step back when our loved ones were in need of help. And now all that can possibly be asked of you is the best you can do in your particular situation.
Are you:
- Including yourself in the circle of care?
- Learning all you can about your loved one’s health issues
- Doing what you can to be an equal member of your loved one’s care team
- Asking questions and not resting until you get correct and respectful answers.
- Using the Reverse Gift List to include your friends and loved ones to the best of their abilities
Then as far as anyone is concerned you are doing the best you can do and all that can be asked of you.
You have become a fine, fierce and fantastic Fearless Caregiver.
