Granddaughter gets violent

What can I do if granddaughter gets violent all the time? She is 25 but her behavior is that of an 8 - 10 yr old She is bipolar and her violence is making my husband and I so very nervous and upset. We also take care of our daughter in wheelchair with MS! I'm 66 years old and I cannot take it anymore. We live in Florida & cannot get help.

I commend you for being able to acknowledge that you have reached your comfort level, that is not something that everyone can do. It may be helpful to connect with your local social services department to see what supportive resources are available to you, perhaps attending a support group for loved ones caring for someone with a -bipoloar disorder may better connect you with resources in your community. Also looking into caregiver related resources located in your area can better support you in your role as a caregiver to both your daughter and granddaughter. As a last resort you can always reach out to your local adult protective services organizations to see if they can intervene in connecting your granddaughter with resources. Granddaughter gets violent

I don't know your city in Florida, but I work for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in Columbus, Ohio and I'm pretty sure NAMI Florida (the state NAMI organization) or contact the local NAMI affiliate in your city. NAMI offers free services that can help you and your granddaughter. There is home. I've been where you are and I know how frustrating, sad, and hopeless you can feel without help. I now suffer from what I believe to be PTSD from my disabled adult son who can be violent at times as well. It has been a struggle for me and I sympathy with you. His father is useless and blames me for his behavior. So I have that to contend with as well. Try and get out when you can and do something if you can for yourself so the stress is not unbearable. Join NAMI if there is one where you live and attend meetings. They are very helpful for both you and her as well. I know how tough t his can be so take care of yourselves.
