See Me, Hear Me, Know Me, from The Heart of a Caregiver is a book I wrote about my journey as my husband's caregiver for nearly a decade. I share with the readers what I learned and how to take care of myself while caring for my husband. I have been privileged to put this book in the hands of many caregivers when I meet them speaking at caregiver support groups. Self care for caregivers is vital and my mission is to provide practical ways in which caregivers can attend to their own needs. In the book I share simple tips like going outside enjoying nature, fresh air, or calling a friend.
My faith in God was the glue that held me together while caring for my husband, but the tips I share can be used by all. As an added bonus, my husband contributed to the book, sharing what he needed from his caregiver. When a caregiver neglects their own care they do themselves a disservice and also the person they are caring for. Self care must be a part of every caregiver's life.
