Oh, the many innovative things I have learned about since starting on my caregiver journey 25 years ago.
For instance, if you or your loved one is dealing with any neurological disease, brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s, or even cleft palate or craniofacial disorders, you have probably heard of hypernasal speech or VPD. This occurs when you speak and too much of the air from your lungs also passes into your nose, giving your speech a troubling nasal tone. I have to admit, it was a new phrase for me.
I learned about VPD from a good friend in London, who has been working hard to produce a simple over-the-counter device for this challenge, which previously only had surgery, appliances or treatments as solutions.
I truly love to hear about these hard-working innovators tinkering in their labs around the nation and the world to help us as we care for our loved ones.
As with everyone I have met who has created important solutions for caregivers, I am pleased that they are listening to their real decision makers – family caregivers.
So, I want to make sure they get the best information possible. If this is something that you or your loved one deals with, please take a very few moments and fill out this survey.
