Day after day I sit looking out the window waiting……waiting…… for you to awaken I have checked your breathing counting the times your chest has risen and when it falls I say prayers that you will be able to walk without too much pain and that you will have an appetite for slices of buttered toast I pour your glass of orange juice and begin to fry an egg Soon the klunk, klunk of your walker can be heard as you slowly make your way across the wooden floor I look up and see the face that raised me the face I love so much and I welcome you with a smileI am a caregiver for an aging parent and sometimes I just use writing poetry as therapy.
