Welcome to CareNotes. In this special section we will feature a reader's letter and provide an opportunity for an interactive exchange that will help find some answers and possible solutions to concerns.
Problem with home care aide
I am the caregiver of my 86 year old mother who lives with me. I get some part time help from the V.A. and Elder Services in my area to help with bathing her, changing bed sheets and cleaning her bathroom. Mom has bad knees, diabetes, is severely overweight, incontinent and refuses to wear her Depends. I am grateful to have help with her because I could not keep up with her needs on my own and her aides are very nice. We have had bad aides from time to time after her surgeries so I appreciate the difference. I feel better having people that care in my home.
The only issue I have is that one of the aides has taken it upon herself to food shop out of our house. She is rarely there when I am home so I haven't been able to confront her about it. My mom adores her and won't confront her about it and I don't want to report her.Mom gets Meals on Wheels and still presents me with a $200 food shopping list every week which is an insane amount of food for one semi ambulatory person to consume.
