Fearless Caregiver Profile: RENEE HOLDER

How did you become the caregiver for your loved one?

My mother went septic and was already caregiving for my sister who has brain damage. Then my husband's sister (who has CP) also came to live with us. So I am caregiving for three

Has your relationship changed with the loved one that you are caring for? If so how?

More tension from mother. Less patience from me.

What is the hardest thing about being a caregiver and the most rewarding thing?

I feel myself falling into depression and feel helpless. Not having any one to help when needed. The rewards are a genuine feeling of accomplishment.

What advice would you give to other caregivers?

Have others willing to give their time to relieve you for some time. Possibly days, so you can collect yourself.

In ten words or less, what has caregiving taught you?

It is rewarding, but difficult.

Describe a situation where being a Fearless Caregiver helped you succeed?

I already had my mother and sister living with us when we were asked if I could caregiver for my husband's sister as well. Without hesitation, I accepted the responsibility and have been Taking care of all three since.
