Fearless Caregiver Profile: CYNDI NELSON

How did you become the caregiver for your loved one?

My husband of 20 years at 48 years of age had a Hemorrhagic Stroke with a Traumatic Brain Injury

Has your relationship changed with the loved one that you are caring for? If so how?

It changed in the fact that I am required to make all of the decisions financially, medically and professionally

What is the hardest thing about being a caregiver and the most rewarding thing?

The hardest thing would be losing my independence to come and go as I please and the most rewarding is knowing that no matter what comes my way I can do it

What advice would you give to other caregivers?

Do as much research as you can on the condition that you are dealing with and reach out sooner rather than later to your community as to what is offered in regards to ease with this new transition of your life

In ten words or less, what has caregiving taught you?

Patience, compassion and to look through another set of eyes

Describe a situation where being a Fearless Caregiver helped you succeed?

I have been able to deal with medical professionals, financial and business associates to create the support team that is required for my personal situation and knowing that I can get through whatever I need to do at whatever time.
