Fearless Caregiver Profile: Mildred Sanchez

How did you become the caregiver for your loved one?

My son was in a car accident in 2010 that left him quadriplegic.

Has your relationship changed with the loved one that you are caring for? If so how?

Yes, it has changed a lot. My son wishes to still have the same type of life that he had when he had before the accident.

What is the hardest thing about being a caregiver and the most rewarding thing?

The hardest part is seeing my son suffer, mostly emotionally because he wants to get married. The most rewarding that I know that he is well by the care he receives.

What advice would you give to other caregivers?

This is a labor of love. Is very tough with very little reward, but is a sacrifice we make for the wellness of the other person.

In ten words or less, what has caregiving taught you?

Caring is loving.

Describe a situation where being a Fearless Caregiver helped you succeed?

Learning and understanding the steps to keep my son healthy.
