Fearless Caregiver Profile: Linda Haack

How did you become the caregiver for your loved one?

I fell in love with him 48 years ago and when he developed dementia, I loved him even more.

Has your relationship changed with the loved one that you are caring for? If so how?

We struggled together to solve physical issues, and I needed to be more independent in fighting for his needs. I slowly lost my partner in decision-making.

What is the hardest thing about being a caregiver and the most rewarding thing?

Hardest is realizing you can't save them and the most rewarding thing is making him smile.

What advice would you give to other caregivers?

Don't be afraid to ask friends for help.

In ten words or less, what has caregiving taught you?

God's help is when I ask for it, coming through others.

Describe a situation where being a Fearless Caregiver helped you succeed?

Bringing my husband home for his last month required more courage, faith and physical and emotional strength than I knew I had, but he definitely was so much happier, that I will always know it was the right thing.
