Fearless Caregiver Profile: RANDI SOLOMON

How did you become the caregiver for your loved one?

I became a caregiver the day my beautiful oldest son was born. He was eventually diagnosed with Autism. We then had two more beautiful wonderful children who have medical, neurological, and psychiatric challenges. I then became the caregiver for my mom.

Has your relationship changed with the loved one that you are caring for? If so how?

I have learned the art of patience, and use what I have learned to pay it forward to others in the same situation. My father-in-law now lives with us and with all the medical and psychiatric challenges he has, I know he doesn't mean what he says.

What is the hardest thing about being a caregiver and the most rewarding thing?

The hardest part of the journey is not taking everything so personally. The most rewarding is when everything goes right and we can relax and laugh..

What advice would you give to other caregivers?

Take it one day at a time. Don't ever be afraid to ask questions. This is your loved ones life. Be bold without being rude and take care of yourself.

In ten words or less, what has caregiving taught you?

Never accept "no" if you know the answer is "yes."

Describe a situation where being a Fearless Caregiver helped you succeed?

I have been coming to the Fearless Caregiver Conference for many years. This time we had a mission to seek out help for us and my father-in-law. The resource tables at the conference are amazing and taught us more in an afternoon than I could have ever anticipated.
