A Caregiver

by

My life of pulls and tugs

Wanting to be everywhere at once and nowhere alone

All at the same time.

My Mom so old needs so much

Loving hands needed always

Care and love and the gentle touch.

And cooking and laundry and doctor's appointments

And medicine and shopping

And mail and cleaning and paperwork.

And then there is my life

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of other family

Responsibilities of the work world.

And last of all

There is me

And my little needs

And my little pleasures

My life of pulls and tugs.

We do not dare

To look forward

To when we too are so old

To wonder what will be when we need

Loving hands

The care and love and the gentle touch.
