Every year in August we go to Utah to visit my husband's Father and Mother for a 4 day weekend. This year we want to go dig up some opals in Nevada too! We have been caring for Mom for 7 years and she went on tube feeding about 3 weeks ago. We are worried that we will be gone too long this go around. We have gotten her adjusted to the new routine, but when our daughter comes to care for her the whole brood comes too and it stresses Mom out and she doesn't get quite the same care as we provide. Should we skip the vacation this time? Our daughter is familiar with tube feeding, so that is not an issue. Maybe we should hire someone this time around? Funds are an issue though. We both missed a lot of work with the last hospital stay. I don't know, it's just hard right now.

To combine respite with brain prodding, I'm attending NHA University in August for 5 days. This is professional development sponsored by my charter school's parent organization, and am I ever ready for 5 nights of uninterrupted sleep! Not to mention brain prodding instead of brain pudding.

Being caregiver for my elderly uncle does not allow a family trip, as there is no one, then, to take care of him. I'm going alone to Ohio to spend several days with my sisters as we put the headstone on my mother's grave on the 1 year anniversary of her passing. My sister was her caregiver, so not only will I get a few days away, I will have the opportunity to commiserate with her and pick her brain for tried and true ideas.
Beyond that, we have a pool, so I plan to spend hours slicing through the water and washing away stress!

I would love to go somewhere and wish other members of my family would ask if
I needed help with our mom so that I can get a break.
