Pieces of the Puzzle

Welcome to the second month of 2017.  Well, the Chinese proverb (curse), “May you live in interesting times”, does seem to apply to this year, so far.  But, for me, the year actually starts this month.  Starting mid-month, we are going back on the road to host our Fearless Caregiver Conferences and I couldn’t be more pleased.  I get to spend the days in rooms filled with my favorite folks and the true healthcare decision makers in the nation – family caregivers.

I like to think of my role as somewhat of a Johnny Appleseed of sharing caregiver wisdom.  It is amazing what solutions and truly smart stuff you will hear when caregivers talk with one another. It is most fun when I can interject a piece of the caregiving puzzle that I learned weeks or even years before in a similar room in an different city also filled with family caregivers.  Because, as any professional caregiver or caregiving advocate will tell you, the family caregivers are the true experts.  Each caregiver has figured out some piece of the puzzle, how to get dad to stop driving, how to partner with the healthcare professionals, how to get family members to help (yes, even that), that other caregivers need. And the way to get this wisdom is to make sure you don’t isolate yourself, never stop asking questions and don’t rest until you receive clear and concise answers to your questions.  And spend time among other family caregivers, whenever possible.

If you are one of the 75,000 caregivers who have joined us at the events over the past 20 years, hold on to your proverbial hats, cause there will be lots of new and important wisdom to be shared this year at each and every event. So let’s get rolling…can’t wait to see you on the road again!
