 Finding Funny

Last week, I was in Wisconsin to host two Fearless Caregiver Conferences—in  Wisconsin Dells and Owen.  I'd like to offer a special thanks to the Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources, Clark County Department on Aging and everyone who worked so hard to make these such great events.
In these cities, I found rooms filled with family caregivers sharing a lot, crying some and even laughing quite a bit. In fact, there is a lot of humor to be found in a room full of family caregivers.
Last Wednesday in Owen, a professional caregiver shared her experience with a client living with Alzheimer's disease back in the days when the mandate was to try and bring the person with cognitive disorders into the present.  Not being a fan of the concept, she begrudgingly told a client, who repeatedly spoke with her long deceased husband, that she had been a widow for the past ten years. The client turned away and speaking into thin air said, "Did you hear that Harry?  She thinks you're dead...!"
I guess that humor is indeed the best medicine.
I look forward to seeing you this fall!
