 Bridging the Gap

Before sending last week’s newsletter, I have to admit that I felt just a little bit of trepidation, hoping that my point regarding “Heroes and Saints” would be well-received and that my intention would not be misunderstood. Then I pushed the send button anyway, deciding that any curmudgeon worth his or her salt, wouldn’t have worried about it for even a split second. Still, I was gratified by the fact that so many of you feel the same way on the issue. One of the things that did come to light, however is the ongoing challenge that rural caregivers face, since many of the solutions available to caregivers in more populated areas are not readily available to those living in more rural areas. Imagine if the nearest support group or adult day care center was 50 miles away. But there are many good folks working on the challenges that rural caregivers face, including universities across the nation, the local clergy and various telephone support programs. We have also created the Rural Caregiver Channel at and the Rural Caregiver issue of Today’s Caregiver magazine in order to help keep the information flowing between the rural caregivers and those working diligently to support them as they care for their loved ones.

Last week's responses.
