This Week's Carenote - 08/06/13

Do you have any information on the causes and treatment for people with dementia who layer clothes and apparently have lost their sense of feeling warm enough or too warm? Do you know of any other caregivers who have gone through this problem? My mother lives with my cousin, who is her caregiver. Mom will get up from her nap and come down wearing multiple shirts. She will get up in the night and mix up her dirty clothes, which are kept in a barrel in her closet, with her clean clothes, which are stored in her dresser or on hangers in her closet. I advised my cousin to box up extra clothes and put them away where Mom can't find them. I also advised her to give Mom her clean clothes after they come out of the dryer to put away as Mom has expressed a need to be doing something "useful." (She doesn't want to clip coupons, match socks or fold towels, but she will do food prep and set the table.) Thanks for any help you may provide.

Sincerely, Phyllis
