This Week's Carenote - 07/23/13

Can you help me become a paid caregiver for my 28-year-old daughter? She has Down’s syndrome. I live in North Carolina and I have asked for help for her since she was three years old, but have received very little. Now I'm a 60-year-old man not working and can't find a job here. I had a job in South Carolina last month, but I had to quit because I had no one to watch her while I work. There have been many problems over the years. I have talked with other single parents who are caregivers for their children and the state helps them financially to stay with their child. I can't work if no one can watch her for me. She gets SSI and Medicaid, but it does not pay for someone to watch her. We are living off of her SSI check now, but I know we can’t make it with just that. I really don't know what to do anymore, but I do know this: I will never give her up. If anyone can help us, please let me know. Thank You.

Steve
