This Week's Carenote - 04/05/11

My mother has several medical issues, but she is still able to take care of herself. The problem is that she has become so depressed that she doesn't maintain her hygiene, clean up after herself, help out with the chores (she lives with my sister). She has even begun getting careless with her medication and meals (she's diabetic). She refuses to deal with her depression saying, "I know what's wrong and there's nothing that can be done about it." Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can get her to try therapy or medication?

First, believe your Mother. Then assist her the best you may. Go with her to see her Doctor. Know what medications she is taking and why. Report adverse side effects to her doctor. Get her diet under control. If possible get her envolved socially with past memories and old friends. Show her you love and care.
