One For All

Nine years ago this week, while typing my column for this newsletter, the unthinkable happened. The date was September 11, 2001 and I was in the middle of a paragraph recounting the terrific time I had while giving a talk in Sioux City, Iowa when the scenes that transfixed the world began to unfold across my television set. The juxtaposition between the terrorists who unleashed such horror and the loving caregivers I met in Iowa was striking and I commented that no such acts would tear this country apart; rather…

Firehouse Project

Dear Friends;
This is a project that is very, very meaningful. As a clinical social worker, compassion fatigue therapist for first responders; caregivers to cops and fireman, this too is very meaningful for me. Attached is a Press Release from the event organizers. Many know the challenging times we all have had, as of late. This project puts everything in perspective.
Please feel free to publicize the event as the cause is beyond worthy. I am truly amazed to be a part of it in such a special way; a humbling and deep experience, to be sure.
Peace & Serenity,
James Huysman, PsyD, LCSW is a Certified Compassion Fatigue Therapist, Certified Addictions Professional Managing Partner, Partners in Health & Entertainment Management, Inc. and the Co-Founder, The Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation.

By Helen Hunter, ACSW, CMSW

September 12 is National Grandparents Day.  We support all of the grandparents who are caregivers raising their grandchildren.

Grandparents raising grandchildren have received considerable attention in recent years. Many observers perceive grandparent care to be a growing phenomenon. Nearly six million children and 1.5 million grandparents currently live in grandparent-grandchild households. One in five of the older caregivers lives below the poverty level. One million are single grandmothers. These households face unique daily challenges...continued
