Driving Wisdom

Well, I asked for it. And am darn glad I did. Last week. I asked for some of your suggestions regarding “taking away the keys” when our loved ones should no longer be on the road. If the reaction was to be like any time the driving issue comes up at a Fearless Caregiver Conference, I knew we would be getting lots of emails in response to my request. We did. And they are all chockful of some really great information.  You can never go wrong asking a fellow caregiver for advice:

In my case we had to buy a new car and strange as it seems they only had one key…continued

When Depressed Husbands Refuse Help

By Beverly Wax

To the outside world, Emme lived a charmed life. She was a successful model, creative director of her own clothing line, a television host, lecturer, and mother of a beautiful baby girl. Only her family and closest friends knew she was actually dealing with a devastating situation that is all too familiar to wives across the country: a husband who has depression but won’t get help....continued

Caring at Work

By  LeAnn Thieman

Are you one of the 65 million Americans who care for a family member? One of the 20-50% of employees who tend to a loved one before going to work, then return to care again after a long hard day on the job?  Feeling torn between both “jobs” and trying to perform well at each, causes so much stress that working caregivers are often plagued with more mistakes, conflicts, and stress-related illnesses. These simple tips will help ease that stress:...continued

Tips to Prevent Senior Scams
By Allen Riggs

There is a ring at the front door and you answer. A kind-hearted gentleman informs you that he has just fixed your neighbor’s roof and he has a lot of material left over. He tells you that your roof is in bad shape and there is a bad storm brewing...continued

Carenotes

Hello,

I live in CA and I have been a caregiver to both of my parents since 1983. My father passed in 1988, and recently  my mom has been showing signs of Alzheimer's and or dementia. She also has heart disease, 3 types of arthritis (including fibromyalgia) and diabetes.  I work full time, and take care of her. I am seeing lately that she needs my assistance more.

I was thinking about looking into taking some time off work, but would love to find something I can work from home where I can earn a decent income and still be here to watch after her. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you
J
