May 1999 - Our second series of “Sharing Wisdom” Conferences take to
the road.
Over the years, I’ve spoken at a
variety of healthcare events, from Scleroderma to Alzheimer’s, AIDS,
Huntington’s disease and Stroke conferences. I love this part of what I
get to do. I love interacting with caregivers and look forward to
speaking each and every time.
April 2000 - A very big month. We move once again to larger
facilities and hire a new publisher, Steven Barg and Managing Editor
Nancy Schonwalter. We are honored with the first annual Media award from
The Southern Gerontological Society
May 2000 - We create our weekly online newsletter and subscriptions
soar.
June 2000 - Gramp, Mom and I appear in Parade magazine and Gramp
passes away.
November 2000 - Over the past three months, I conducted over
twenty-five radio interviews. My favorites are the call-in shows.
Through the shows, I am able to talk with caregivers from Miami, Florida
to Nome, Alaska.
Our Magazine Special Focuses are an annual tradition by this point. The
topics have included: Cancer; Depression; Alzheimer’s; Multiple
Sclerosis; AIDS; MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment) and Incontinence.
June 2001 - Finally, the final draft of my first book “The Fearless
Caregiver” is overnighted to the book publisher.
June 2001 - I can hardly believe it, but Gramp is gone a full year.
July 4, 2001 - The sixth year of our own personal Independence Day;
the distribution of the first issue of
Today’s Caregiver Magazine.
July 5, 2001 - The first day of our seventh year of publication, with
many more to follow.
September 11, 2001 - In the middle of writing my weekly newsletter,
not only does the tone of the message change mid-sentence, so does the
world, as we know it.
