If you contact your county's Area Agency on Aging (for age 60+),you can ask for a FREE assessment to see if you qualify for free or low-cost services. They may have a caregiver's program, which may provide a small stipend. Or you may qualify for a program in which an aid would come in for several hours a week, to take care of some of the things your wife may have difficulty in handling. They will also provide you with lists of resourecs in your community.

You may want to look into applying for Veteran's aid and attendance if you are a veteran. You don't have to be receiving your medical treatment from VA to apply. Its worth the effort. Contact a local veterans service officer to see if you qualify. Many people miss out on this benefit.

I agree with Bette. I have a few contacts in my area that provide grant monies to caregiver of individuals with memory problems. Although that is not the concern you possed, I think that there would be similiar monies out there. I would also suggest contacting any national or local organizations that work with individuals such as yourself.

I have a disabled adult son that I am caring for. Up until recently I have been on a program that paid me to care for him, instead of having an aid come to our home. I was just advised yesterday that the state will no longer allow family members to be paid to do this. This is a shame, this service was very helpful to us, now I don't know what we are going to do. I had quit my job to get on this program.

Caregivers sometimes do Free Homecare Services for an exchange of Room and Board to include meals. However,this is for a personal discussion with a caregiver you have in mind. Schedules,time, case etc. are some of the topics you have to share to obtain a mutually beneficial relationship.
